The Last Night (as Camera Operator)

❮The Last Night❱是我幫印度籍同學RAVI擔任camera operator的
CONTINUITY HD攝影作業,本片嘗試low key暗調燈光,講述一對夫妻
在離婚前最後一夜的生活樣貌。


I did this film as a camera operator for an Indian director Ravi for his "continuity" project.
We attempted to create a low-key lighting in this film, which tells the situation of the last
night a couple have before they divorce.

二月的最後一天,我離開紐約市去了上州一個叫creswood的小鎮拍攝一個西藏
導演的影片。坦白說,這個劇本的故事很難說服我,一個離家十年的流浪藝術家,
有一天回到家中,發現十年不見的母親生重病。他去了紐約試圖賣掉一幅他最珍
愛的畫,希望能幫助母親就醫。


當所有人對他的畫不屑一顧時,他邂逅一個亞裔女孩,他們討論起這幅名為"快樂"
的畫的意義,這讓身為醫生的女孩反思起自以為快樂的人生,進而發現男主角的
困境而幫助他,但為時已晚,母親已在家中過世。


我對其中一場男主角離家十年後,走在回家路上的戲很有感覺,導演給我很大的
空間自由發揮,他只要求我要有一顆很長的鏡頭,拍男主角走在雪地裡的畫面。
去拍攝地點的路上,這位導演跟我提到他11歲那年逃到印度,7年多前來到美國,
他整整離家21年了,這些日子以來,他無法打電話回家(政治因素),只靠哥哥寄來
的照片,一窺已年老的母親容顏。



我就帶著那樣的情緒,拍了這部影片裡我最有感覺的一場戲,但也在這一天,
玩了人生中的第一場雪球大戰。

閉上眼睛,把耳機戴上,
站在月台邊,
吹著還帶著涼意的冷風。


睜開眼睛,望向遠方,
走進人群裡,
踩著還是可以很輕盈的步伐。


每天要聽上二十次的一首歌,
一首要放大音量,
讓人迷眩,失去重力感的一首歌。



一首不需要方向感的歌。

"Soft Light" production workshop

soft light的工作坊,這一天輪到我當攝影指導,必須在五小時內完成老師(導演)
給的指定劇本,目的是學習soft light的運用。因為拍攝的地點十分地狹小,約
2.5m * 4m,我把教室的方位整個大挪移,並應用借位的手法,呈現與真實教室
完全不同的空間概念,並把演員搬出教室,用長焦鏡頭營造前景的假象,企圖製造
三維空間的立體感。



註:老師非常欣賞我用"騙"(cheat)的勇氣與手法,還跟我說從此這種拍法就叫chen-chih的方法。
(本片無收音,僅用機上mic, 演員皆工作坊成員非專業演員)
